Nadra's name change process is now so easy with submitting an affidavit. They changed their policy to give the opportunity to the people who want to change their name. In this article, I am going to tell you how can you change your CNIC name with some easy steps.

The name given by the parents to their child should be a good name. If they want to change it later, they have to adopt an easy procedure and fulfilling certain requirements. Now requirements of publishing name change advertisements in newspapers and to file an application in the court of a magistrate have been canceled.


People change the names of their children for a number of reasons:

  1. They want to change spelling or name
  2. The first name was given to the child by mistake
  3. They face some issues regarding applying for a foreign country
  4. The child does not like his/her name
  5. The name does not match with educational certificates

NADRA Name Change Process and Requirements

NADRA has removed the condition of advertisement in newspapers for the name change.
First of all, mostly the name has two parts, a personal name or nickname, and a second partial name. For example, the Name Nasir Iqbal has two words. Nasir is the main name and Iqbal is a partial name.

You can change the partial name without any documents


The following are the documents required to change the main name or full name.
  1. Make an affidavit of name change (Ashtam paper) certified by the Oath Commissioner, a sample of which will be obtained by clicking here.
  2. You will need to take your parents or siblings to the office for biometric verification.
  3. If a blood relative is not alive, the form can be attested by the number dar or 16+ grade officer.
  4. You can also change the name according to your educational documents.
  5. According to the new policy, you can only rename once. Renaming a second time or reverting to the old name is not allowed.

If the head of the family (father/husband) changes his name, all family members will be required to modify their CNICs/ NICOPs/ CRCs
Name change due to religion would be entertained only when the applicant gives a certificate issued by a registered religious institution/ Mufti.

Name Change due to Change in Marital Status

The following documents are required for the name change due to the change in marital status
  1. Original ID card / CNIC of the spouse
  2. Original marriage certificate (manual and computerized, both are valid)
In case of non-availability of marriage certificate, submit an affidavit attested by oath commissioner or bring spouse with you in Nadra office.
