What is National Testing Agency? The NTA is an agency of the government of India that conducts tests for admissions to higher educational institutions. The Agency was established in November 2017 and is headed by Vineet Joshi, the first Director-General. The NTA conducts entrance examinations for admissions to more than 30,000 universities and colleges in the country. The agency's primary task is to test applicants' abilities for the various courses they wish to study.

It is the independent, self-sustaining testing agency of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The NTA is responsible for conducting various entrance exams for higher education. The National Testing Agency has the mandate to develop and administer standardized tests for higher education institutions. They will initially conduct entrance exams for CBSE and IITs, but will also take on other entrance examinations as they are developed.
