Resident Evil Movie Review
This highly anticipated action thriller takes place three years after the first Resident Evil film. A team of commandos led by Milla Jovovich must break into a genetics lab. The facility has been infected with a deadly virus that resurrects the dead and turns the remaining personnel into the evil Un-dead. The team only has three hours to shut down a supercomputer and close down the facility before the Un-dead get to them.
The Resident Evil movie follows the storyline of the popular video games. The original film was released in 1999, and is a homage to the first two games. Its prologue, "Evil," introduces evil scientist William Birkin and the recurring character Claire Redfield. The film's storyline has changed a bit since then, with a few clumsy moments that establish the future deux-ex-machina. This remake of the original isn't particularly good either.
While 'Resident Evil' has a new director, it's still far from being a true revival of the franchise. Instead, it merely adapts the first two Resident Evil games and doesn't attempt to revive the series. Unfortunately, the screenplay and direction don't work for the film's ambitious goals. And while the actors and director have good intentions, the film's biggest flaw is that it's a disappointing movie for many reasons.
