He revealed the diagnosis in August 2021
Alex announced the tragic news in a video titled “where I’ve been” in August 2021.
The YouTuber revealed that he had peen experiencing a lot of pain in his right arm which he assumed but have been due to playing video games for so many years.
However, it didn’t get any better and he began to notice “swelling” in his shoulder, so went to see a doctor who ran some scans and revealed the diagnosis.
“They told me the reason that my arm hurts is because I have cancer,” he said before saying that he feels a bit “silly” speaking about such a serious topic whilst playing Minecraft.
He was then transferred to another hospital where he had more scans and a biopsy before being given a treatment plan which included chemotherapy.
Alex nearly had to have his arm amputated
In a video posted on Christmas Eve 2021, Alex revealed that he almost had to have his arm amputated due to the cancer.
“In early October I’m talking to my surgeon and he’s not saying this 100% but the vibe I’m getting is that he think’s it’s going to be necessary to amputate my right arm to get the cancer,” he said.
He sarcastically said that he had been coming up with all the “jokes” he could use if he lost his arm as a doctor told him that he needed to have it amputated “next week” and it might be “too late”.
The procedure was scheduled for November but he was then told that it wasn’t necessary to remove the arm. However, he did have a surgery to remove some of the cancer.
In a statement following his death, Technoblade’s family wrote: “We wanted all of you to know just how much he adored and respected his fans and colleagues.”
“The past year had a lot of rough spots for our son as he battled stage four cancer. But he didn’t complain, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he knew were almost impossibly odds,” they continued.
“My son’s bravery on this path was a shining lesson to all of us who were privileged to walk it with him. Thank you for sharing his journey through it all, as he did the work he loved for his beloved fans.”
