Warburton's #BRCQPR talking points.MARK Warburton was a satisfied man after seeing his QPR side come from behind to snatch an injury-time winner at Bristol City.
The Robins took the lead on three minutes through Alex Scott before Charlie Austin levelled from the spot just before the break.
The hosts were reduced to ten men when Andy King received a
second booking, but it took until injury time before the R’s were
finally able to get past a resilient City side.
I was so pleased for the players and for the fans.
Yoann Barbet headed home Stefan Johansen’s corner, causing scenes of pure joy with the R’s fans behind the goal.
Following the game, Warburton shared his thoughts on the key talking points.
First half
“I said to the players at half-time that Bristol City
showed more intensity than us, and we had to change our shape slightly.
We conceded a very poor goal and had to find a way.”
The penalty
“I haven’t seen it apart from when it happened. The ref is
there. We have suffered ourselves this season with some questionable
decisions. We always say that they even themselves out and perhaps that
is what happened tonight.”
Team selection
“We could only name five subs and it could easily have
been less than that. The players deserve enormous credit for the way
they have adapted to the challenge. They have come through a lot. These
are unprecedented times right now.
“We are having players drop right, left and centre.”
The supporters
“I was so pleased for the players and for the fans. What
an incredible turnout tonight. I wasn’t expecting that many for a
midweek match, absolutely superb support. It was magnificent.”
The late winner
“You think when those two chances go – Lyndon [Dykes]
working the ball down the side, Lukey [Amos] with the header – that
perhaps it isn’t going to be your night.
“But again, they showed desire, determination, work ethic -
whatever you want to say, they showed it in abundance tonight and
deserve enormous credit.
Set-pieces
“We work on set-pieces and I always say a good delivery to
a powerful runner is always hard to mark, whoever you are. We got that
tonight and I am delighted.”
Not being at our best
“I said to the players afterwards that if we can be
significantly below our best like we were tonight and come away with all
three points, that is really important.
