That takes us to our next question: what cars will be launched in 2022? Here is the list.
Upcoming Sedans
1. 11th Gen Honda Civic
The biggest car launch of 2022 is going to be the 11th generation Honda Civic. Pakistanis are crazy about the current Honda Civic. The latest 11th gen Civic will blow the roof off the market.
The 11th gen Civic was revealed in April 2021 and is now on sale in different international markets (the US, Canada, and Thailand). The new Civic is available in both sedan and hatchback body styles.
The first unit of the new Civic is here in Pakistan. Honda Atlas has imported a test unit of the 11th generation Honda Civic from Thailand. The company is probably developing the next-gen model for our market.
Civic X was launched in Pakistan nine months after it went for sale in the US and four months after Thailand. It’s been a few months since the car was officially launched in both the markets; it’s safe to say we are 4 to 6 months away from the launch of the next generation of Honda Civic.
2. 12th Gen Toyota Corolla Hybrid
Talking about the new Civic, how can we not mention the new Corolla? So, here’s the update: the latest 12th generation Toyota Corolla will also be here in 2022. But that’s not it. The big news is, for the first time ever, we’ll be getting a hybrid Corolla.
The 12th generation Corolla has already turned 2.5 years old in the international markets. The car made its global debut in late 2018 and hasn’t made its way to our local market.
We all know how much Toyota has been stressing over the importance of hybrid cars. The company is adding more hybrid models to its car lineup, and that’s exactly what’s in the cards for the new Corolla for Pakistan.
We think Toyota Indus is doing the groundwork of introducing the 12th gen hybrid Corolla, and we might witness the official launch by the summer of 2022.
3. MG GT
The third sedan getting ready to be launched in 2022 is the MG GT (also known as MG 5). And we have all heard a lot about this one, haven’t we?
It’s been months since MG Motors imported a test unit of this sedan. The company has been taking the unit all over the country. Currently, the test unit is on display at Packages Mall Lahore.
MG GT has three variants: Base, Mid, and Top. The imported test unit is the Mid variant. We have done the first look review of it.
Like all other MG cars, MG GT will be offered as a CBU import. The car’s official launch is expected sometime around December 2022.
Upcoming Hatchback
4. 4th Gen Suzuki Swift
Yes, at last, we will get the new generation of Suzuki Swift after 11 years. Pak Suzuki has already discontinued the old 1st generation Swift and is now gearing up for the launch of the latest 4th gen model.
The 4th generation Suzuki Swift was unveiled in March 2017 and received a facelift in 2020. As per reports, we will get the pre-facelift model.
Recently, two units of the new generation Swift have been spotted at the Karachi Airport. Our speculation is that Suzuki has imported these units for testing. But we could be wrong. Either way, we will get the new Swift by the mid of next year, and that’s for sure.
Upcoming Crossovers & SUVs
5. Chery Tiggo 4 Pro
After sedans and hatchbacks, we have the upcoming crossovers and SUVs. First up, we have the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro that’s all set to be launched early next year.
We first heard about Chery SUVs coming to Pakistan in December 2020. Chery imported the test units of two of its SUVs in August 2021. One of them was the Chery Tiggo 4, a 5-seater subcompact crossover like the KIA Stonic and MG ZS.
After months of trials and testing, Chery Pakistan recently unveiled the specs and features of the Tiggo 4 Pro at an exclusive event in Karachi. The company now plans to reveal the official price and start bookings in January 2022.
6. Chery Tiggo 8 Pro
Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is the other Chery SUV that’s been tested and unveiled in Karachi. This one is a seven-seater mid-size crossover like the DFSK Glory 580 Pro, Honda BR-V, and KIA Sorento. Like the Tiggo 4 Pro, we’ll get the Tiggo 8 Pro in January 2022.
7. Proton X50
After one SUV and a sedan, Proton is now planning to launch a smaller B-segment crossover. Proton X50 sits under X70 in the Proton lineup.
The car was launched in October 2020 and has taken the Malaysian market by storm. So much so that Proton delivered over 11,000 units from October 2020 to March 2021 and is having a hard time meeting the orders.
For Pakistan, the company will first import CBU units for testing and then launch the CKD domestic model by the end of 2022.
8. DFSK Glory 500
After the successful launches of Glory 580 and 580 Pro, Regal Automobiles has plans to add another member to the Glory family. DFSK Glory 500 is a 5-seater subcompact crossover, just like Proton X50.
The car was launched in China in November 2020. Its best selling point is that it’s super-economical. The company has designed this car as a family SUV accessible to everyone.
Prince DFSK wanted to launch the Glory 500 as CBU units by the end of this year. But the year is almost over, and the company has not managed to pull that off. So, hopefully, the car will be here early next year.
9. Changan Oshan X7 Plus
The next upcoming SUV is from Changan, and it’s the Oshan X7 (or Oshan X7 Plus).
Changan has been eyeing the SUV segment of the local market for a few months now. The company imported CBU units of a few of its international best-seller SUVs for trials and testing. We spotted Changan UNI-T, Changan UNI-K, and Changan Oshan X7 from time to time.
After months of testing, Changan has got it down to one SUV for the official launch. The company recently shared the sketches of its upcoming “modern SUV”. And we think it’s the Oshan X7 Plus, the facelifted version of the Oshan X7.
Like DFSK, Changan also wanted to mark the year-end with the car launch but couldn’t do it. Now, the upcoming Changan SUV will hit the market early next year.
10. Peugeot 2008
After KIA, Pakistan’s Lucky Motors Corporation (LMC) is bringing another car brand to our local market. Peugeot is a French car brand that will debut with a B-segment subcompact crossover Peugeot 2008.
We heard the name back in February when Lucky Motors imported this SUV for trials and testing. Soon after, the company imported the test units of two more SUVs, Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008.
Now that Lucky Motors has officially launched Peugeot in Pakistan and even started its 3S dealerships across the country, the launch of Peugeot SUVs is just around the corner. The first one will be the Peugeot 2008, hitting the market early next year.
11. GAC GS3
We have heard about another Chinese auto manufacturer, Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), entering the market in 2022. The company will bring a 5-seater crossover, the GAC GS3 against MG HS, KIA Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson.
As per reports, the company will start offering CBU units next year, while local assembly will begin in the next couple of years.
These are all the upcoming car launches for the year 2022. Which one are you excited about the most?
