Cast Iron Tawa

Cast Iron Tawa

Preparing crispy dosas isn't an easy task; the batter can stick to the tawa and change the texture. However, fitness influencer Juhi Kapoor shares a few simple kitchen tips that will help you maintain the new look of your cast iron tawa. The dosa is an important Indian dish, made of fermented rice and lentil batter. It is also high in protein and contains urad dal.

Using a cast iron tawa is not difficult. The first step is to soak it in hot starchy water overnight. After the tawa is removed from the water, use a clean cloth to dry it. Scrubbing with steel wool will get rid of the rust problem. After washing, apply vegetable oil to the tawa and wipe it with a dry rag. Once the tawa is dry, you can start cooking.

The next step is to soak the tawa in hot water after cooking rice. The tawa should be kept in this water for three days. Then, use a dry cotton rag to wipe the surface clean. Occasionally, spray the tawa with vegetable oil. If the tawa is still shiny, you can apply vegetable oil to the surface with a rag. The first few dosas may be soggy, but you'll notice the difference in your subsequent ones.
