Direct and Indirect speech mcqs set 1. Direct and indirect speech are two ways in English language grammar to convey the message. These two ways are direct and indirect speech.
Saying exactly what someone has said is called direct speech (sometimes called quoted speech). The spoken words appear within quotation marks ("..."). For example:
She says, "I am a little bit nervous."
She says that she is a little bit nervous.
In the first sentence, the person conveys the message of the girl using her actual words, "I am a little bit nervous."
In the second sentence, the person conveys her message but in his own words without any change in the meaning. Thus, both direct and indirect speeches are two different ways of reporting a statement of a person.
