Delhi


Delhi is a famous ancient city. It is on the right bank of the river Yamuna. It was the capital of India during the time of the Hindu, Muslim and British rulers. It is now the capital of the Republic of India. It has two cities side by side. One of the most famous is Old Delhi which contains the Jama Masjid and the Lal Mandir in Chandni Chowk. It also contains the famous Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Qutab Minar, Humayun's Tomb, Kotla Feroz Shah, etc. It is also a big center of trade dealing in food grains, clothes, gold and silver and gota kinnari (embroidery threads), etc. Old Delhi has a big railway junction. Some buses also run through the city. In olden times, Delhi city was surrounded by strong wall parts of which still exists.


The second city is known as New Delhi, was built by the Britishers as their capital. There are many beautiful buildings in New Delhi including the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, All India Radio, Supreme Court and Birla Mandir. Our President Sh. Ram Nath Kovind and our Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Damodardas Modi lives here. It has become a famous city in the world.
